The Schwinn 231 recumbent bike is the high-end recumbent model from Schwinn Fitness, a step up from the mid-level Schwinn 230 recumbent bike.
There’s no doubt that the Schwinn 231 Recumbent is a nice bike, after all it’s basically the same exact machine as the Schwinn 230 but about $200 bucks more expensive.
You’d think that if you outlay that extra cash and get the best model that Schwinn offers it’s a smart investment – right?
My opinion is, don’t bother.
While it’s true that you get a few extra workouts and a little fancier display, for all intents and purposes the Schwinn 231 and 230 are identical bikes.
Same pedals, same seat, same 300 pound weight capacity, same resistance, same heart rate monitor… I think you get the idea!

If you want a good quality recumbent bike for working out at home, I’m not going to tell you, “You shouldn’t buy the Schwinn 231″ – what I am saying is this…
If it were my money I was spending, I would opt for the less expensive Schwinn 230 and invest the savings in a good heart rate monitor, exercise bands or some strength training gear.
